We got home from the doctor's and he diagnosed Kaleb with something called Craniosynostosis. They will do a CT and x-rays to determine if he needs surgery. His pediatrician is scheduling an appointment with a craniofacial surgeon.
Here is some information on it.....
Craniosynostosis is a problem with the skull that causes a baby's head to be oddly shaped. A baby's skull is not just one bowl-shaped piece of bone. It is made up of five thin, bony plates that are held together by fibrous material called sutures. The sutures let the baby's skull expand as the brain grows. Over time, the sutures harden and close the skull bones together.
When a baby has craniosynostosis, one or more of the sutures close too soon. The head does not form a normal shape.
Craniosynostosis occurs in about 1 in 2000 births. Most likely, Kaleb's is caused because he was breech.
In rare cases, the disease causes pressure build up on the baby's brain and cause brain damage. Surgery to form new sutures is usually performed in the first year of life which prevents pressure, and corrects baby's head shape.
